For many years now, the standard for business telephone lines has been ISDN, which is a digital telephone line from BT’s network, connected directly to your telephone system. It is no secret that BT intends to cease the Analogue & ISDN service in the coming years and in the last 6 years we have seen the steady rise of SIP trunks as a mainstream alternative.

What is a SIP?
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is a protocol used in VoIP communications allowing users to make voice and video calls, mostly for free.
Why Use SIP?
SIP allows people around the world to communicate over the Internet. It is an important part of Internet Telephony and allows you to harness the benefits of VoIP (voice over IP) and have a rich communication experience. But the most interesting benefit we derive from SIP is the cutting down of communication costs. Calls (voice or video) between Tetcom SIP users are free, worldwide. There are no boundaries and no restrictive laws or charges.
SIP as a protocol is also very powerful and efficient in many ways. Many Tetcom customers currently benefit from the use of SIP for their internal and external communication, centred around a Unify telephone system.
SIP Trunks are fast becoming the standard technology that allows businesses to make and receive telephone calls without the need for an expensive and inflexible ISDN circuit. The quality of the service, lower cost, the ability to converge onto traditional data circuits and the many additional features has contributed to its increasingly widespread adoption, making it the best choice for more than 90% of businesses.
